GRASS ROOF SEALED WITH CLAY
The clubhouse at the world-class The Hills Golf Course at Arrowtown has a live grass roof. This presents a challenging situation of having a heavy layer of ‘soil’ on the roof. The risk of the roof leaking into the clubhouse below had to be eliminated with a permanent solution.
Adhesion Sealing was contracted to grout and seal the pre-cast panels, and we chose Volclay Swelltite water-proofing membrane. It is a bentonite clay-based product which, when confined, provides excellent protection from water. If water penetrates the liner layer, the bentonite activates to stop the flow of water. The reassuringly dry result confirms our choice. The Hills is New Zealand’s premium golf course and it is quickly gaining a reputation worldwide. It was the venue of the 2007 NZ Golf Open and it will also host the next Open in early 2009. |
